Last month, Superintendent James Morris presented the Fremont Unified School District Board of Education with a letter announcing his intention to retire effective June 30th, 2017. Though the Fremont Unified family is sad to see Dr. Morris go, we feel lucky to have had the benefit of his leadership over the past seven years. We wish to thank Dr. Morris for his hard work and dedication to the students of Fremont. During his tenure, our district passed both Measure E and Measure I, collaborated on new and exciting projects with the City of Fremont and local businesses (including local home builders), and most importantly, led our school district by example every day, implementing new ways to best serve our students.
To his credit, Dr. Morris also helped to establish a strong leadership team who are committed to helping our district through this transition and beyond. On April 12th, 2017, the Board of Education agenda includes an item for the approval of an employment agreement naming a member of our district leadership team, Dr. Kimberly Wallace, as the new Superintendent of the Fremont Unified School District beginning July 1, 2017. Dr. Wallace is currently serving as Fremont Unified’s Assistant Superintendent, Instruction. Her knowledge of curriculum and our diverse community, as well as her familiarity with Fremont Unified and a commitment to strong, collaborative leadership has earned her the support of the Board of Education. We believe that our district’s students, families and employees will best be served with Dr. Wallace continuing our mission to Educate, Challenge and Inspire our students every day.
Please join me in expressing our appreciation for the contributions and leadership of Dr. Morris, and our best wishes for his future endeavors, and to offer a warm welcome to Dr. Wallace, as she embarks on this journey to benefit the students, families, staff and community of the Fremont Unified School District.
President, FUSD Board of Education
