•  ASSISTANT PRINCIPALS’ MESSAGE

    Dear Parents,

Welcome to the 2016-2017 school year!  Mrs. Watson-Bird and I are very excited to join the Horner community this year as Assistant Principals. This is my 4th year as an FUSD administrator, and it is Mrs. Watson-Bird’s first year as an administrator. Her work year is split this year between Horner and Thornton. For the first semester, she will be at Horner on Thursdays and Fridays and every other Wednesday and at Thornton on Mondays and Tuesdays and the other Wednesdays. Prior to this position, she taught 8th grade honors English at Thornton for 17 years.  For the last three years,  I was the AP at Thornton, so we are both coming to you from the Thornton community.  We are anxious to continue our work helping students succeed at the junior high level and preparing them for success in high school and beyond.

In these first few weeks of school, we have had the chance to visit classrooms, and we have seen some amazing teaching and learning occurring. On Sept. 2nd, we met with all of the students through their PE classes to review the school rules and expected behavior standards for Horner Junior High. The things we covered are all things that can be found in the Student handbook. Please review these rules and standards with your student, so we are all on the same page when it comes to what is expected here at Horner.

    Following are some general reminders:

    ·         Please do not drop off or pick up students on Chapel Way—use Irvington Ave for all drop offs and pick ups. This is safer for pedestrians and vehicles.

    ·         Cell phones must be turned off and put away while at school. Students may NOT use cell phones during school dances.

    ·         Students are expected to turn in their own work at all times.   Any student who is caught cheating or plagiarizing will receive a zero on the assignment and issued a two- hour Thursday Detention

We are really looking forward to a wonderful year with such an amazing staff and students!  Please feel free to reach out to us if you have any questions or concerns; we have an open door policy.

    Respectfully,

Mr. Pabley  and Mrs. Watson-Bird--Assistant Principals
