Fremont Unified School District has a tradition of educational excellence with staff members regularly providing engaging instruction and going above and beyond to meet student needs.
While Fremont Unified has been highly successful, there is always room to grow, especially as we continue to integrate new standards and instructional materials in our classrooms. So we are embarking upon a purposeful practice called professional learning communities (PLCs), which has a laser-like commitment to making sure every student in every classroom experiences meaningful learning through relevant opportunities and thoughtful discussions. The PLC approach recognizes that the key to improved learning for students is continuous job-embedded learning for educators.
The PLC model depends on everyone in the organization—from parents, to students, to teachers, to classified staff, to administrators—seeing themselves as learners. There are four essential questions that we must use as our lens when making any education-related decision:
Becoming a district-wide professional learning community does not happen overnight. It takes significant planning, and cannot happen without support for all involved in the process. Furthermore, professional learning communities are not a program to be adopted, but a way of being to be developed through authentic work together. Working as site-based and district-wide professional learning communities will allow us to stretch our learning and extend the valuable connections between staff, students, and families in Fremont. Why do this? Because ALL of our students deserve it.
