English as a Second Language
Our award-winning ESL program offers a variety of classes in reading, writing, grammar, vocabulary, business communication, listening and speaking, and pronunciation. Seven levels of core ESL, from Beginning Literacy to Advanced/Transitional to College, will help you improve your English skills and build your confidence on the job, in school, and in the community.  Day, evening, and weekend classes are available to choose from, including distance learning courses. Our friendly and experienced  instructors will help you achieve your educational and career goals.  Certificates of achievement are awarded to students as they complete  each level of ESL. Graduates of the ESL Program get employed or get promoted at work and move on to our High School Diploma and GED programs, and to community colleges. The Career and Transitions Center for ESL students (CTC) provides information and advisement to facilitate their successful transitions to post-secondary education and employment

Our ESL Computer Lab is among the best in the Bay Area. Students come here during their ESL classes to practice English using a variety of ESL software and websites. In the VESL computer class students work on various projects in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.  The 5-level Rosetta Stone software program version 3 purchased with the funds the school received from the state thanks to the learning benchmarks our students made on the standardized CASAS tests provides many hours of practice for all ESL levels and helps  students learn English faster.

Citizenship Preparation classes provide instruction and practice necessary to pass the citizenship interview and become a U.S. citizen. They are offered each quarter in  5-week sessions.

Welcome to our ESL program!
