California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP)

Students in grades 3-8 and 11 took the computer adaptive tests in English and math in Spring 2016. Students in grades 5, 8, and 10 also took the paper-based tests in science.

If you have not received your child's score report, you may visit your school office for a copy.  The district office does not have copies.  If you have questions about your child's score, please contact your school. 
NOTE:  Student Score Reports for the California Alternate Assessments (CAAs) in grades 3-8 and 11, and/or the California Alternate Performance Assessment (CAPA) for Science in grades 5, 8, and 10, will be printed and distributed in the fall of 2016 following approval of the threshold scores for the CAAs that allow assignment of performance levels.

CAASPP The California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress

The California Department of Education (CDE) has ended the STAR (Standardized Testing and Reporting) program and has replaced it with CAASPP (California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress). STAR included the California Standards Tests (CSTs) as the primary assessment of student learning, as well as the California Modified Assessments (CMAs) and the California Alternate Performance Assessment (CAPA) for Special Education students. From now on, CAASPP will use the Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium (SBAC) online assessments, and the California Alternate Assessments (CAAs) for Special Education students. These are aligned to the Common Core State Standards in literacy and mathematics and includes more rigorous content than the previous tests. Through CAASPP, districts will be able to gain valuable information and monitor student progress to ensure that all students master the new standards and are prepared for college and career opportunities beyond high school.

The SBAC or CAA computer adaptive assessments are required for all students in grades 3-8 and 11 in the areas of English language arts and mathematics. There was also a paper-based science test required for students in grades 5, 8, and 10, which was a part of the previous STAR program. We expect that in the future, the Science tests will also be converted to a computer-based system aligned to the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS).

Individual student reports will be sent home to families during the summer and will include an overall score and a description of the student’s achievement level in English language arts, mathematics, and science if applicable.
