Selection - Merit System:
Fremont Unified School District has adopted the Merit System, and, as such, has a Personnel Commission that oversees the Classified Service according to the rules and regulations set forth in the Education Code sections 45240 et seq. The essential function of a Merit System is to insure that hiring into Classified positions is based on individual merit rather than favoritism. As such, all permanent Classified positions are filled through a competitive examination process leading up to an eligibility list, from which selections are allowed from the highest three ranks containing interested applicants.
- Applications for employment are accepted when the District has posted the vacancy for recruitment (as opposed to internal transfer).
- Applications are screened to be sure candidates meet minimum eligibility requirements.
- Testing may be required and may include written, performance, physical or drug/alcohol tests.
- Qualifying oral interviews are arranged after testing has been completed to establish an Eligibility list. This is done by a panel that consists of District and Non-District administrators and technical staff with subject matter expertise.
- The top three ranks from the Eligibility List interview with the supervisor for placement in the vacant positions. The supervisor may select any one of those candidates without further justification.
- Eligibility lists remain in effect for one year or until there are less than three ranks remaining on the list.
- Generally speaking recruitments are both open competitive and promotional, in which internal applicants receive employee points.
- A criminal background check and Tuberculosis clearance is required before an offer of employment is finalized.
Noon Duty Supervisor Positions:
If you are interested in becoming a Noon Duty Supervisor please inquire with the principal or secretary at your school of interest. This process begins at the school site, and will include a criminal background check and Tuberculosis clearance.
Some Classified Positions have specific education documentation requirements. Individuals who have completed college or university course work at an institution in a country other than the United States must obtain a complete evaluation of foreign transcripts, degrees and other relevant documents prior to applying to those particular positions. Some positions require certification of a minimum typing speed. Certification may be obtained from an approved source, such as a government agency, an accredited education institution, Fremont Adult School, or an employment agency. Certifications obtained from an online source will not be accepted. Typing certifications must be dated within the last three years.
NCLB (No Child Left Behind) Para-educator Testing:
